Everything you want to know about our authentic Himalayan mountain herb incense — ingredients, tradition, burn, and wholesale.
Back to Das Sang product pageDas Sang is made with 10 sacred mountain herbs harvested from the high Himalayas. The known herbs include rosemary, cedar, and sang — along with seven additional spiritual herbs prescribed in ancient Tibetan texts, including juniper, rhododendron, spikenard (jatamansi), artemisia (Himalayan wormwood), clove, vetiver, and saffron.
Each herb is selected for its aromatic profile and its role in the Tibetan tradition of sang offering — the burning of sacred plants to purify space and honour the natural world.
All herbs used in Das Sang are harvested from the high-altitude belt of the Himalayas. The high altitude, clean air, and extreme seasonal variation of this region concentrate the aromatic and medicinal properties of these plants in ways that lower-altitude varieties cannot replicate.
Yes. Das Sang carries a Natural Organic certification. There are no synthetic fragrances, no artificial binders, and no chemical additives. The sticks are formed entirely from compressed mountain herb powder — the fragrance you experience is the fragrance of the herbs themselves.
No. Das Sang sticks are coreless — they are made entirely from compressed herb material with no bamboo or wooden stick at the centre. This means 100% of the stick is aromatic herb. There is no woody or synthetic burning smell at any point during the burn.
Sang (or "bsang" in Tibetan) is the practice of burning sacred aromatic plants as an offering. It is one of the most ancient and widespread rituals in Tibetan Buddhism and Bön tradition. Sang offerings are made to purify the environment of negative energies, to honour deities and spirits, to express gratitude to the natural world, and to carry prayers upward with the rising smoke.
Juniper is the most classic sang plant, but the tradition uses a wide variety of mountain herbs — all of which are present in Das Sang.
The formulation of Das Sang draws from traditional Tibetan medical and ritual texts (known collectively as the Gyushi, or "Four Tantras," and related commentaries) which document the medicinal and spiritual properties of Himalayan herbs and prescribe their use in sang ritual. These texts form the foundation of Tibetan traditional medicine and spiritual practice.
Tibetan incense and Indian masala incense come from entirely different traditions and processes. Key differences:
Hold the tip of the stick to a flame (lighter or match) for 5–10 seconds, then gently blow out the flame. The tip will glow orange and produce a steady, fragrant smoke. Because the stick is coreless and denser than bamboo-core incense, it may take a few extra seconds to catch — this is normal.
Place in a suitable incense holder. The included clay disc holder (supplied in each tube) is designed to hold Tibetan-style sticks securely.
Each Das Sang stick burns for approximately 45–60 minutes. The exact burn time varies slightly with ambient humidity and airflow. Coreless sticks generally burn more evenly and completely than bamboo-core sticks.
Each Das Sang tube includes a small clay disc holder with a central hole for the stick. This is the traditional holder for Tibetan-style coreless incense. You can also use a sand-filled bowl, a wooden log holder, or any ash-catcher designed for thicker incense sticks. Standard bamboo-core stick holders (like thin brass tubes) may be too narrow for the thicker Tibetan stick.
Das Sang is beautifully suited for:
Each Das Sang tube contains:
The tube itself is a sturdy illustrated cardboard cylinder featuring traditional Tibetan Buddhist motifs.
The number 33 holds significance in several Buddhist and Hindu traditions — it references the 33 devas (celestial beings) of the Trayastrimsha heaven described in Buddhist cosmology. Packing 33 sticks per tube honours this tradition and gives the product a meaningful, spiritually intentional count beyond simple commercial convention.
The Das Sang tube is approximately 30 cm tall, 5–6 cm diameter. Weight per tube (with sticks) is approximately 80–100 g. Please contact us for exact dimensions for packing/shipping calculations.
Yes, with sensible ventilation. As with all incense, Das Sang should be burned in a well-ventilated space. Open a window or door while burning to allow fresh air circulation and prevent smoke build-up. Do not burn in enclosed, unventilated rooms or around people with respiratory sensitivities, asthma, or allergies.
Das Sang contains a blend of natural plant materials including rosemary, clove, cedar, spikenard, and others. Individuals with known sensitivities to any of these plants should exercise caution. If in doubt, briefly test the product in a well-ventilated space before extended use. Keep away from children and pets during burning.
Store Das Sang in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. The sealed tube protects the sticks well. Avoid storing in humid environments (such as bathrooms) as moisture can make natural herb sticks difficult to light. Properly stored, the sticks will retain their aromatic quality for 2–3 years.
